First movement from Christopher Rouse's second symphony. possibly one of the most recognized of rouse's pieces, his second symphony stands tall in his catalogue of works. The work is purely of American style, filled with complex harmonic patterns, repetition of motifs and notes themselves, and pure kinetic movement and suspense throughout the entire piece. The symphony is written classically, presenting the ABA form. Incidentally, The first movement is set at exactly the same tempo as the third movement, serving the third movement as a sort of continuation of the first.
